ECHOES takes part at the Archiving 2019 congress

From May 14th to 17th took place in Lisbon (Portugal) the Fourth Edition of the congress “Archiving: digitalization, preservation and access”, where ECHOES participated through a presentation and a workshop.

During the congress, the last innovations and projects in the field of digitalization and preservation were shared and discussed. Ricard de la Vega, Computing and Applications Manager at CSUC and member of ECHOES, held the conference “Technical Challenges and Approaches to Build an Open Ecosystem of Heterogeneous Heritage Collections”, within the session “Access: Integration of Linked Open [usable] Data” of the 17th of May. In particular, de la Vega shed light on the definition and technical features of the ECHOES.

In addition, some of the attendees at Archiving 2019 had the opportunity to participate in an interactive workshop held on Tuesday 14th by Walther Hasselo, from Erfgoed Leiden, and Olav Kwakman, from Tresoar, both members of ECHOES. The workshop put the focus on the possibilities offered by ECHOES thanks to the open source software tools that it uses. That is, the transformation of metadata to linked open data, the enrichment of these data, and how to search and visualize them in an innovative way.

During the fourth edition of the congress, the first version of the new ECHOES website and a new visual identity that evokes the fusion of different cultural legacies has been presented. The new web allows users to search for concepts, digital objects, people, places and time, so that the user creates their own history with an interactive and easy to use visualization.
