ECHOES Project presented at Archiving 2018 congress

From 17 to 20 April took place in Washington, DC (USA) the celebration of the Archiving 2018 congress dedicated to “Digitization, Preservation, and Access“, in which ECHOES has been presented.

Walther Hasselo and Ariela Netiv, from the Dutch institution Erfgoed Leiden in Omstreken (ELO), presented the article “ECHOES: Empowering Communities with a Heritage Open EcoSystem” within the session of “Interactive paper Previews” on April 19. In addition to the article, an explanatory poster of the project has also been presented.

The article provides an overview of the project Empowering Communities with a Heritage Open Ecosystem (ECHOES) which, with a duration of two years, aims to dissolve the current barriers to access to the cultural heritage of different nations through a common platform.

Through a modular ICTS architecture based on open source, ECHOES collects different documents related to European heritage. Its platform, from which a first version was released in December 2017, works as a digital ecosystem, consisting of a wide range of user communities, and enables active participation with the ability to enrich the digital collections that contains.
